Fearing that land allocated by the Gujarat government won't be enough to accommodate all vendors, Maruti Suzuki has demanded more land in addition to the 700 acres it has already been allotted for capcacity expansion in the future.
Maruti will invest Rs 4,000 crore to set up a new manufacturing facility in Mehsana by 2015-16.
The Gujarat government said that this land will be released to Maruti Suzuki in Phase II of production in Mehsana. The company will commence Phase I production from 2015-16. In this phase, Maruti will set up vendor park over 100 acres.
The company's Gurgaon facility expands over 300 acres and the one at Manesar is over 600 acres. When contacted, the company spokesperson said it is too early to comment on details but assured CNBC-TV18's
Ronojoy Banerjee that the vendor park will surely be part of new facility.
