Luxury car-maker Audi is betting big on India's appetite for luxury cars
The German car-maker, which had targeted sales of 8,000 units for 2012, hopes to sell 600 units more by the year end.
Speaking to CNBC TV18's Ronojoy Banerjee, Audi India's brand director Michael Perschke said that India will become one of the top five markets for Audi globally by 2020-21 and will overtake BMW as the number one luxury car-maker in India by 2014.
Audi plans to assemble 90 percent of its 'A' and 'Q' Series cars in India next year. Right now, it assembles only 70 percent in India.
Perschke also said that the company is not leading the discount wars unlike is rivals. He also expects sales to be hit early next year due to price hikes as the company plans to hike prices by 5 percent.
